Tips For Transitioning From Online To Offline

by Online Dating on August 24, 2011

It may be easy to be flirty online, but translating your online relationship to the offline world can be a challenge. Here are a few tips to help things go smoothly.

Be Real

Online dating is tough, so remember to keep things real the entire time. It’s easy to play up your features, but it’s better to downplay them, so your date has something to discover — and so they’re not subconsciously looking for flaws off the bat. It’s a good idea to give a disclaimer before you meet. For example, you may be super flirty online, but let your date know that you’re actually a shy person in real life. Let your personality shine!

Review Past Chat Logs

I’m not saying you have anything to hide — hopefully you’ve been honest! Going back to your chat logs will help to job your memory about the little details. Did you make a promise while getting flirty? Well, you can decide whether or not you’ll own up to it or skirt around it. Reviewing the logs will also help you with ideas to keep the conversation going once you do meet in person.

Be More Willing To Meet Casually

It’s always easier to chat with someone online, and when it comes time to meet in person there’s a lot of pressure. Alleviate some of that by being more willing to meet casually. Think, coffee, a light lunch, or some other no-pressure meeting. Many times, the person you’re meeting is very different from the one you got to know online, so things don’t always work out. It’s nice to have a casual meeting to determine whether or not you’d like to move forward in the relationship in real life, or simply keep chatting online.
